The European Commission (EC) Health Certificate is a crucial document for ensuring the safety and quality of fish and fish products exported to and within the European Union. It certifies that the products meet the stringent health and safety standards set by the EU. The legal basis for the issuance of these certificates is rooted in the Fish & Fish Products (Inspection and Quality Control) Rules 1997, which outline the necessary inspection, quality control, and certification processes to ensure compliance with EU regulations. These rules help maintain high standards of food safety, protect public health, and facilitate international trade.
